Texas Tidbits
___bluebull Davis spins some stories. Former Wayland University Chancellor Wallace Davis has written a new book, "Climbing Sunshine Mountain," that collects some of his favorite stories. The tales range from childhood escapades to lessons learned as a university administrator. Davis has been acclaimed for his storytelling ability as a speaker, and the book captures many of the stories he has told in those speeches. Many of Davis' stories revolve around his childhood in Olney. Proceeds from the book sales will help fund construction of a Student Activities Center for Wayland's Plainview campus. The books are available for $12.95, plus $2 for shipping and handling, from Wayland's development office.
___bluebull Hall and Hood named admissions reps. Kristin Hall and Heather Hood are new admissions representatives for Hardin-Simmons University. Both are May 2002 graduates and will reside in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.
___bluebull But did they read the articles? A Baylor fraternity was suspended and several individual students were disciplined for posing in Playboy's October issue, which included a feature on women of the Big 12 Conference. About 50 fully clothed male and four female students posed at an off-campus sand volleyball court, some wearing the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity letters and others waving Baylor pennants. In another photo, a student who graduated last May posed nude. As a result, Baylor has suspended Sigma Phi Epsilon from campus for a year, said Bethany McCraw, associate dean for judicial and legal student services. The fraternity is appealing the decision. The individuals in the photograph also have been subject to disciplinary action. In addition, individuals identified through an investigation by judicial affairs who posed nude, but whose photos did not appear in the October edition of the magazine have been suspended. The university has a well-publicized policy barring student involvement with what one school official called "salacious" publications like Playboy.
