Around the state
___bluebull The Marvelously Mature 60+ Camp at Latham Springs Encampment in Aquilla meets Sept. 23-26. Camp begins with registration at 2 p.m. Monday and closes after the noon meal Thursday. The program includes preaching, singing, and fun and games. Paul Powell, dean of Truett Seminary, will speak at 11 a.m. Tuesday. Cost is $70 per person.

FACE-PAINTING was just one of the activities at the Shady Oaks Apartments in Georgetown recently. Terranova, First Baptist Church's mission church that targets young singles, hosted a block party at the multihousing complex. Another kid-favorite was the cookie decorating booth. Hamburgers and hot dogs were provided to residents, along with watermelon and homemade cookies. Pastor Kyle Cheatham also brought a brief message to the residents.

___bluebull The Dallas Baptist University Chorale will hold its premiere performance of "Requiem" in the Ellis Chapel of Park Cities Church in Dallas at 7 p.m. Oct. 3. Admission is free. The piece, written by composer Maurice Durufl, was chosen to commemorate the lives of those who died in the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. Stephen Holcomb, associate dean of the College of Fine Arts and department of music chair, will conduct the work. The performance will launch the College of Fine Arts' performance season. ___bluebull Victory Church in Plano honored its 87-year-old pianist, Clara May Nash, Sept. 22 . In addition to being the church's pianist, she also gets up early to play for a devotional service each Sunday at a nearby nursing home. Playing for churches since 1931, she is estimated to have played on approximately 3,692 Sunday mornings. Roy Frady is pastor.

___Retiring
___bluebull Milton Bailey, pastor of the Anglo congregation of Emmanuel Church in Houston, Sept. 29. He was licensed and ordained in the same church in 1936 and 1938, respectively. Among the churches he served as pastor are First Church in Humble, First Church in Pearland, First Church in Willis and Meadowbrook and Northside churches in Houston.
___bluebull Paul Smith, as pastor of North Waco Church in Waco. He is available for interim and supply.

___Deaths
___bluebull Mary Burton, 77, Aug. 26 in Cortez. Her husband, Jimmie, was a pastor in Texas and Colorado before becoming director of missions for three Colorado Baptist associations. She was active in Woman's Missionary Union both on the local and national level, serving as Colorado president five years. She was preceded in death by her six brothers and one sister, and her daughter, Nancy Biles. She is survived by her husband of 60 years; son, James; daughter, Mary Ann Sanders; five grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
___bluebull Thomas Clark, 61, while vacationing in Missouri, Aug. 30. He was pastor of Grace Temple Church in Waco. His prior ministry primarily had been as a minister of music. He also was retired from McLane Foods. He is survived by his wife, Marcella; son, Thomas; brother, Robert; sister, Audrey; and four granddaughters.
