Hispanic Baptist Theological School seeks
statewide input on ideas for new name

___SAN ANTONIO--Advice from Texas Baptists is sought by the president of Hispanic Baptist Theological School.
___In anticipation of approval from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board that would allow the school to offer a bachelor's degree, administrators and trustees are considering a new name for the 55-year-old institution.
___The school was founded in 1947 as Mexican Baptist Bible Institute, then became Hispanic Baptist Theological Seminary in 1983. Due to legal restrictions enacted by the Texas Legislature in 1999, the name was changed to Hispanic Baptist Theological School.
___In recent years, the school has been accelerating its growth and vision for cross-cultural ministry and missions training. This preparation includes seeking accreditation to offer a bachelor of arts degree.
___"The best stewardship of the sacrifices and dreams of those who established and developed (the school) is to fully embrace and expand our Hispanic identity, seize our future and take our place in redemptive history," said President Albert Reyes.
___"Given the dramatic demographic shift in Texas and the unprecedented opportunities in global missions, what should our new name be?" he asked.
___Five potential names have been identified: Hispanic Baptist Theological College, San Antonio International College, Pan American Bible College, Texas Baptist Missions College, College of the Americas.
___Reyes would like input from Texas Baptists about these potential names and any other suggestions for appropriate names.
___Comments and recommendations may be sent via e-mail to selizondo@hbts.edu or by regular mail to HBTS at 8019 Pan American Expressway, San Antonio 78224. The fax is (210) 924-4338.
