___bluebull Lusk named vp at Wayland. Claude Lusk, assistant professor of business at Wayland Baptist University, has been named vice president of enrollment management. He is the first to hold the position, created during an administrative realignment in 2000. He will oversee the offices of admissions, athletics and student services, and he will be responsible for studying and improving student retention and related issues. With an undergraduate degree from Wayland, Lusk holds a master of business administration degree and a doctor of education degree in higher education administration from Texas Tech University.
___bluebull Mission Service Corps effectiveness noted. Data reported from the Southern Baptist Convention's North American Mission Board indicates Mission Service Corps volunteers nationwide led 82,986 people to profess faith in Jesus Christ and started 3,960 churches or Bible studies last year. About 46 percent of all MSC missionaries are from Texas. Texas volunteers recorded 38,173 professions of faith and helped start 1,821 churches, missions or Bible studies. ___bluebull Walter scholarship established. The Nancy Nell Cox Walter endowed scholarship has been established at Hardin-Simmons University by her children to honor her loving devotion as a mother and her service as a teacher at Abilene's Cooper High School. The scholarship will be awarded annually to a journalism major.
___bluebull Antenen to lead Wayland campus. Retired Air Force Col. James Antenen has been named dean of Wayland Baptist University's San Antonio campus. He succeeds Dillard Whitis, who retired. Antenen comes to Wayland from USAA, where he was a management development consultant. He also served three years as executive vice president and then president of the Community College of the Air Force and was commander of the occupational measurement center at Randolph Air Force Base in San Antonio. Antenen holds a bachelor's degree in graphic arts and journalism from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, and earned the master of science degree in industrial/vocational technology from Central Missouri State University. He received the doctor of education degree from Auburn University.
