___ Buckner offers international trip orientation. Anyone interested in international mission trips offered by Buckner Orphan Care International is invited to an information and orientation session Feb. 24 at 7 p.m. at Park Cities Baptist Church in Dallas. Buckner trips range from one to three weeks in length and include opportunities such as leading evangelistic camps, conducting religious programming in orphanages, working with babies in orphanages or delivering humanitarian aid to orphanages. ___ UMHB exceeds goal. The Challenge Beyond 2000 Campaign at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor has concluded with $17 million raised in cash, pledges and deferred gifts, exceeding the $13.5 million goal. The campaign was launched in 1999 to raise funds for university endowment and capital projects. The goal for endowment was set at $4.5 million, and $6.9 million was raised. In capital needs, the goal of $9 million also was surpassed with a final commitment of more than $10 million. The Parker Academic Center was one of the major capital projects included in the campaign, and it was dedicated in September 2002.
___ Dinnin to advisory committee. Kevin Dinnin, president of Baptist Child & Family Services in San Antonio, has been elected to the National Advisory Committee on Children and Terrorism. The purpose of the 11-member committee is to assess the nation's preparedness and recommend actions. The committee functions under the new Department of Homeland Security.
___ Ryrie at HBU. Charles Ryrie will speak at Houston Baptist University Feb. 18 at 10:10 a.m. The former professor of systematic theology at Dallas Theological Seminary is best known for his Ryrie Study Bible.
___ Buzz in for Stinger Daze. Howard Payne University will host Stinger Daze Preview Weekend Feb. 28-March 1 for prospective students. ___ Graham scholarship established. Alfred and Gwendolyn Woodard of Graham, both Hardin-Simmons University graduates, have established an endowed scholarship at their alma mater. First preference will be given to students attending from Graham, but other students will be eligible for the scholarship assistance. Woodward previously was pastor of First Baptist Church of Gordon; First Baptist of Hollis, Okla.; Immanuel Baptist Church of Shawnee, Okla.; and Skyline Heights Baptist Church of Dallas. He also was a Baptist Student Union director in New Mexico. Mrs. Woodward is a retired English and Spanish teacher. The Woodwards currently reside in Graham, where they operate a cattle ranch and attend First Baptist Church.
___ Madden changes roles at Baylor. Stan Madden, vice president for university relations at Baylor University, stepped down from his administrative post Jan. 31 to return to full-time teaching in the Hankamer School of Business. Madden, who holds the Ben Williams Professorship in Marketing, was appointed vice president for university marketing in March 1996. He was named vice president for university relations in fall 1999. Larry Brumley, associate vice president for external relations, will provide interim leadership for the university relations division, which includes public relations, alumni services, youth programs, university host, department of public safety, continuing education and career services.
___ Baylor offers doctrinal conference. Baylor University President Robert Sloan will lead a doctrinal conference Feb. 11 on the meaning and symbolism of baptism and the Lord's Supper. The event will run from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. in Hughes-Dillard Alumni Center.
___ Training offered for children's ministers. The Baptist General Convention of Texas has launched a certification program to teach ministry fundamentals to preschool and children's ministers who do not have seminary training. The program consists of nine seminar classes, four mandatory and five electives. ___ ETBU hosts Tiger Day. Prospective students and parents are invited to attend Tiger Day March 1 on the campus of East Texas Baptist University. This preview event is free and offers students a chance to know more about the ETBU campus. Register for Tiger Day online at www.etbu.edu/admissions/previewdays.php or by calling (800) 804-ETBU. ETBU will host Bebo Norman in concert at 7:30. The concert and Tiger Day may be attended separately. ___ DBU grows again. Dallas Baptist University set another enrollment record with 4,275 students registered for the spring 2003 semester. This year's enrollment is an increase of 180 students (4.4 percent) over spring 2002, the previous all-time high.
___ Aldridge to Buckner. James Aldridge has resigned as pastor of Northwestern Baptist Church in Midland to become area director of gift planning and stewardship for Buckner Benevolences. He will work primarily in the Midland-Odessa, Lubbock and Amarillo areas. Aldridge joined the staff of Crestview Baptist Church in Midland in 1981 as a mission pastor to help found what is now Northwestern Baptist Church, serving as pastor since then.
