___bluebull Hays to lecture at Baylor. Richard Hays, professor of New Testament at Duke University Divinity School, will deliver the seventh annual Willson-Addis Lecture Feb. 19 at Baylor University's Truett Theological Seminary. Internationally recognized for his work on the letters of Paul and on New Testament ethics, Hays will speak on "Ethics in Light of the Resurrection" at 9:30 a.m. For more information, call (254) 710-3755.
___bluebull Wesleyan expert to speak. William Abraham, professor of Wesley studies in the Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University, will present the third annual W.C. Dobbs Lecture in Applied Christianity at Baylor University's Truett Theological Seminary March 5. An expert on John Wesley's career and theology, Abraham will speak at 9:30 a.m.
___bluebull Wayland plans Big Weekend. Wayland Baptist University will host Big Weekend, a preview event for any high school junior or senior or college transfer student. At the March 21-22 event, participants will meet students, faculty and staff, attend mock classes, financial aid seminars and admissions counseling. Participants also will attend baseball games, take campus tours, sleep in the dorms, eat in the cafeteria, try out for various athletic teams and take part in voice, theater and band auditions for scholarships. A Friday night concert featuring Switchfoot will highlight the weekend. The cost is $20 per student and $15 per sponsor for the full weekend with an optional $8 T-shirt. ___bluebull HSU gains students. Spring enrollment for Hardin-Simmons University increased from 2,071 to 2,120, a gain of 2.4 percent over last spring. Undergraduate enrollment of 1,737 is up from last year by 37 students, and the graduate school has its second-highest enrollment in 10 years with 339 students in the 15 master's degree programs. Also, 90 percent of last fall's freshman class re-enrolled for the spring.
___bluebull HSU trustees set budget. Trustees of Hardin-Simmons University have adopted a $29.5 million budget for the fiscal year beginning in June, a 4.8 percent increase. Tuition for incoming students will be $380 per semester hour. Current full-time students who are enrolled during consecutive fall/spring semesters and making satisfactory progress will keep the tuition rate that they were charged upon entering.
___bluebull UMHB enrollment springs ahead. The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor reported a record spring enrollment of 2,446, up from 2,390 students the previous spring semester. Among that number are 235 first-semester freshmen and transfer students, up from 212 new students last spring. The university has implemented several new on-line services, including an on-line application for admissions to the university. More than 60 percent of student applications now are received on-line.
___bluebull Marketing campaign wins award. The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor's marketing campaign for 2002-03 received four awards in the 18th annual Admissions Advertising Awards competition, including three bronze and one gold. The campaign focuses on the idea that UMHB has something unique to offer students because of its small size. The campaign employs slogans such as "Don't be a number; be number one."
___bluebull Hillcrest receives challenge grant. Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center in Waco has received a $375,000 challenge grant from the Mabee Foundation of Tulsa, Okla. To receive the money, the hospital must raise $280,000 from other sources for its Vision of Excellence campaign. The current campaign will renovate and relocate the comprehensive rehabilitation unit, renovate the Emergency Room and create an urgent care unit.
