___bluebull Merritt's church may move. Former Southern Baptist Convention President James Merritt hopes to lead his Atlanta-area congregation to relocate to a 70-acre abandoned office and warehouse site. The move would take First Baptist Church of Snellville, Ga., from the suburban Atlanta community where it has been since 1882 and transplant it to the suburban community of Duluth, which is about 20 miles northwest of Snellville. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Jan. 27 that the church could obtain the $22 million site essentially for free but would need to raise $15 million for the first phase of adapting the space for the church's needs. Merritt told his congregation he would plan to preach at both the old and new locations for at least two years, but ultimately his energy would be devoted exclusively to the new location. The 4,000 member congregation will vote on the proposal Feb. 9.
