FIRST CHURCH in Carey recently broke ground on a new sanctuary and multi-purpose building. Participating in the ceremony were building contractor Jerry Henderson, church members Becky Wilson, Cloyce Holeman, Kay McClain, Mary Lou McKee, Jimmy McClain, Dwayne McKee, Lisa Harris, Jerry Gressett, Paul Harris and Pastor Randy Wilson.

___Anniversaries
___ F.M. Byford, 50th in the ministry, Jan. 12. He has been minister to median and senior adults at Paramount Church in Amarillo for the last 18 years. Prior to that, he served churches in Oklahoma.
___ Joe Traweek, fifth, as minister of music and education at West Sherman Church in Sherman Feb. 8.
___ Ron Durham, 30th, at Columbus Avenue Church in Waco, Feb. 9. His first seven years were as associate pastor and minister to college students. In December 1980, he became pastor. His son John Durham, pastor of First Church in Irving, will preach the morning services as a part of the day's celebration. A reception will be held at 4:30 p.m. Christian comedian Dennis Swanberg will be featured that evening.
___ Jimmy Dillon Jr., fifth, as pastor of Trinity Church in Wichita Falls.
WEST University Church in Houston will celebrate its 75th anniversary Feb. 23. A reception for alumni members will be held at 9 a.m., with current members attending Bible study. Pastor Barry Landrum and Pastor Emeritus LeRay Fowler will speak in the morning service. A lunch will follow the service. Special events will include testimonies by current and former members, burying a time capsule on the front lawn and music by choirs of all ages. Former choir members are invited to sing in the sanctuary choir after an 8:30 a.m. choir rehearsal. Celebrating the old and the new are staff members Matt Yelvington, Mike Bonem, Barbara Chrisman, Roger Patterson, Lee Poquette, Ronny Barner, and Landrum, driving the pickup. ___ Cliff Feeler, 50th in the ministry, March 30. A reception will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. March 30 at First Church in Denton, where he is minister to senior adults. Feeler began his ministry in Missouri, but came to Texas in 1957 to become pastor of McClanahan Church near Marlin while attending Baylor University and selling shoes. He later was pastor of Bruceville Church in Bruceville and Meadowbrook Church in Waco. In 1972, he joined Plymouth Park Church in Irving as associate pastor/administrator, where he served 12 years. At that time he became program coordinator for Latham Springs Encampment. After resigning from the camp, he was minister of education at First Church in Groesbeck and interim church services director for Waco Association. In 1989, he joined the Denton church, where more than 700 senior adults are involved.

___ The women's ministry of First Church in Center will hold its annual Joy Seekers conference Feb. 28-March 1. Guest speaker Patsy Dooley uses humor and real-life situations to illustrate biblical truths. Kim West will lead the praise and worship time, and Joann Smith will bring the special music. Prior to Feb. 15, cost is $20 and lunch is provided. Scholarships are available. Registration at the door will be $25. Child care will be provided for children ages 5 and under for a small fee. ___ William Haynes, 77, Dec. 29 in Woodville. He was a pastor 50 years, serving several churches. He is survived by his wife, Virginia; son, Rodney; stepsons, Matthew and Mark Johnson; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and three step-grandchildren.
