___ Nominating committee to meet. In accordance with the bylaws of the Baptist General Convention of Texas, notice is given that the BGCT Committee to Nominate Executive Board Members will meet Thursday, Aug. 21, at 9:30 a.m. in the Texoma Conference Room of the Baptist Building, 333 N. Washington in Dallas. Kevin Hall, pastor of First Baptist Church of Haskell, is chairman of that committee.
___ ETBU adopts live tiger mascot. East Texas Baptist University has introduced a new live tiger as its mascot. "Sarge" made his debut at chapel March 24. Students then were allowed to pose for photos with the 10-month old, 120-pound Siberian tiger throughout the day. Sarge's appearance was the official start of an agreement between ETBU and Tiger Creek Wildife Refuge in Tyler to adopt the tiger, which will be the university's first live mascot.
___ Paredes named Miss ETBU. Ana Paredes of Ambato, Ecuador, has been crowned Miss East Texas Baptist University. The junior psychology major represented Baptist Student Ministry in the competition. She also was named Miss Congeniality and Most Talented. Elizabeth Bell of Bryan was named first runner-up, and Melissa Loven of Linden was second runner-up.
___ Talbert to lecture at HBU. Charles Talbert, distinguished professor of religion at Baylor University, will present the annual A.O. Collins Theology Lectures at Houston Baptist University. He will speak April 10 at 8 p.m. and April 11 at 9:30 a.m. in the Mabee Teaching Theater. He will address the theme "The Gospel of Matthew and the Formation of Christian Character." The lectures are named for a founding faculty member of HBU.
