Around the state
___ The Senior Saints Summit at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor will be held May 19-22. Paul Powell is the preacher; Bill Carrell, Bible teacher; and Larry Putman, worship leader. ___ Mark Pair recently was honored with a retirement celebration
THE TEXAS A&M Aggie Baptist Student Ministry recently held a midnight pancake supper in its parking lot. The students, including Ashley Bearden, who is pictured assisting with syrup, served pancakes, coffee and hot chocolate to other students who were either coming to or leaving the many bars in the area. Several teams of students worked together to make pancakes, serve food, pray and spread out within the crowd with the intent of initiating spiritual conversations, some of which lasted more than an hour. More than 55 pounds of pancake mix was used.
at Wayland Baptist University at which he was named piano artist in residence and his longtime studio was monickered the Mark Anthony Pair Piano Studio. Pair retired in May 2002 after 36 years at the University. He and his wife, Helen, are members of First Church in Plainview.
___ Several students and alumni recently received awards from the Baylor University School of Social Work including Erin Brackney, outstanding baccalaureate student; Vicki Northern, outstanding graduate student; Whitney Smith, baccalaureate intern of the year; Jennifer Nelson, graduate intern of the year; Scott Taylor, excellence in research award; Marie Gardner, Spirit of Social Work award; David Davis, 1987 graduate, field instructor of the year; Alicia Abernathy, 2000 graduate, outstanding alumni award; and Andrea Dunn-Theilengerdes, 1989 graduate, outstanding alumni award (given posthumously).
___ Eighty-two University of Mary Hardin-Baylor students recently received awards during the school's award chapel. Among those were Timothy Ivey of Spring, and Scott Sackreiter and Jesse Hoover, both of Georgetown, who all received the Dorothy Hughes Weatherby Presidential Endowed Scholarship for ministerial students. Julie Haisler of Ennis was honored as the most outstanding Christian young woman on the campus, and José Morin of Georgetown was awarded the Outstanding Christian Young Man medal. Ivey and Stephen Milillo of Dickinson received the Heather Ann Hurley Presidential Endowed Scholarship given to outstanding students seeking to enter full-time ministry.

___Deaths
___ Loyd Tripp, 68, March 16 in Dalton, Ga. Tripp was one of the first ministers of recreation in the state of Georgia and served as minister of missions and senior adults at First Church in Dalton until his retirement in 1999. Before moving to Georgia, he was youth director at Second Church in Houston and minister of recreation at Gaston Oaks Church in Dallas. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Lynette; daughters, Leigh Watson, Leslie Tripp and Laurie Robinson; son, Larry Tripp; and four grandchildren.
