___ Registration is underway for the 18th annual May By the Bay Adult Camp at the Texas Baptist Encampment in Palacios. Camp dates are May 5-8, with more than 200 people expected to attend. ___ Ann Gebuhr, professor of music, director of the Houston Baptist University School of Music and associate dean of the College of Arts and Humanities, is the 2003 winner of the Louisville Orchestra Composition Competition sponsored by the Indiana State University Contemporary Music Festival. She also won the competition in 1981.
___Appointments
___ Bob and Janice Newell have been appointed by the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship to serve as missionaries in Athens, Greece, in a ministry to Albanians. They recently resigned their positions at Memorial Drive Church in Houston as pastor and organist. He had served the church since 1989 and she since 1992. They have two grown sons. Prior to becoming a pastor, Newell was on the faculty of Houston Baptist University) in the sociology department and also was the school's first director of religious activities. She taught organ at the school. After a time in Kentucky, Newell returned to HBU as an administrative dean.

___ Jim Warmerdam, as pastor of Valley Grove Church in Stephenville, April 30. He has served the church for more than 14 years and has been in the ministry for 18 years.
___Deaths
___ Seth Witcher, 93, April 2 in Clifton. Witcher, a physician, was a Baylor University athelete, playing football and basketball. He was honored in 1974 with induction to the Baylor University Athletic Hall of Fame. He also was a charter member of the school's President's Club. He was a deacon at First Church in Clifton 50 years. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Sue; daughter, Susan Thomas; son, Seth Jr.; four grandchildren; a great-grandson; and two sisters, Jewell Stiver and Mildred Dail.
___ Steven Briggs, 44, April 3 in Elmendorf. He was pastor of Tilden Church in Tilden. He is survived by his wife, Stacey; parents, Mark and Leah Briggs; sons, Daniel and Samuel; and brothers, Walter, David, Paul and Richard.
___ Joe Bailey, 85, April 9 in Milano. He was a pastor for many years, serving First Church in Vivian, La., First Church in Sulphur Springs, East Grand Church in Dallas, Columbus Avenue Church in Waco, First Church in Calvert and Liberty Community Church near Milano. He was a graduate of Baylor University and also recieved the doctor of divinity degree from Howard Payne University and a doctor of law degree from Baylor. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marjorie; sons, Roger and Joe Jr.; daughters, Lou Beth Birdwell and Mary Jane Morgan; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
___ Elaine Shelton, 90, April 9 in Breckenridge. She was the pianist and organist for First Church in Moran 65 years. She is survived by her daughter, Dale Connally; son, James; sister, Dale Pippen; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
___ Frances Vaughan, 79, April 10 in Fort Worth. She was the wife of Curtis Vaughan, longtime Southwestern Seminary professor. She graduated from Southwestern with a master's degree in religious education at age 63, the oldest graduate ever to receive that degree there. She is survived by her husband, Curtis; sons, David and Michael Brown; daughter, Nancy Pollard; step-sons, Curt and Steve Vaughan; step-daughter, Becky Strode; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and brother, Robert Smith.
___ Marjorie Stephens, 81, April 13 in El Paso. She was an emeritus Southern Baptist missionary appointed in 1952. She was a school teacher and administrator in Nigeria until her retirement in 1986. She was a graduate of Hardin-Simmons University and Southwestern Seminary. She also was the author of three books including "The Lost Monkey." She is survived by her sister, Elizabeth Grayson.

___ First Church in Belton held a women's tea April 12 featuring Jean Kemp, wife of the church's pastor from 1967 to 1987. The "Find Us Faithful" theme was commemorated with numerous quilts and a quartet's spirited rendition of "Baptist to the Bone." Sharon Davis, wife of current pastor Andy Davis, gave the closing remarks.
___ Thirty-five churches have joined efforts to stage an evangelistic crusade at the civic center in Decatur April 21-25. Jack David Daniels will be the evangelist for the It's Time Crusade. Services will be held at 7 p.m. each evening. Wednesday evening will feature a pizza supper for youth beginning at 6:15 p.m.
___ First Church in Mesquite will be the site of the dramatic musical "Sam Houston: The Man, The Myth, The Melodies" April 25 at 7:30 p.m. Donations received at the door will help construct a new thrust stage.
___ Fielder Road Church in Arlington will hold a groundbreaking ceremony April 27 at 10 a.m. The ceremony will mark the beginning of a building project that will include a 3,500-seat worship facility.
