University rallies for troops
___At the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, Sandra Rodriguez ties a ribbon on a tree for her brother, Sgt. 1st Class Pedro Perez. Rodriguez was among several hundred participants in a campus rally to demonstrate support for United States troops fighting in Iraq. The March 26 rally was organized to encourage troops from nearby Fort Hood. Students have witnessed firsthand evidence of the preparations for war, with Apache helicopters flying overhead, the sounds of bombing drills echoing in the distance and scores of rail cars loaded with military equipment passing by the north side of campus. "We want the soldiers to hear about this rally," said organizer Deborah Hofmann, a 20-year-old communications major. "We want them to know that we care and that we are praying for them." |
