___FORT WORTH--The Texas Baptist Men have an additional $1,000 to spend on disaster relief, thanks to the gift of a small Fort Worth congregation.
___Richard McCormack, pastor of Westland Heights Baptist Church on the outskirts of Fort Worth, presented Texas Baptist Men with a check for $986 during May 1.
___"On an average Sunday, we have around 42," McCormack explained. "We have more senior citizens than anything else, and most are on a fixed income."
___That didn't stop them from giving, though. One member, Nell North, came up with the idea of taking up a special collection for Texas Baptist Men to support future aid to the war-torn Middle East
___"Small churches like ours are the backbone of the Southern Baptist Convention," McCormack said. "A lot of times, these kinds of churches are overlooked because of America's fascination with the mega-church. But small churches are always no-nonsense, steadfast and will always be there. This congregation has been faithful since it was founded 51 years ago."
