Rev. Mary Whitehurst: God’s Got This | Baptists Preaching

Welcome to the debut of Baptists Preaching

Notice this new feature is not called “Baptist” Preaching but “Baptists” Preaching because there is no one form or method or style of Baptist preaching. Rather, you can find a number of forms, methods and styles in any given Baptist pulpit on a Sunday morning. The sermons featured here reflect that variety.

Baptists Preaching is not an effort to advance any one theology or style but to present what a collection of Baptists considers a word from God. Likewise, Baptists Preaching offers a repository of Baptist preaching for future study and research. To recommend a sermon to be featured in Baptists Preaching, please contact [email protected].

With this introduction, we are proud to present Rev. Mary Whitehurst for the debut of Baptists Preaching!

Rev. Mary Whitehurst: God’s Got This! (Psalm 3 with reference to 2 Samuel 13-18)

Rev. Mary Whitehurst

In the debut sermon for Baptists Preaching, Rev. Mary Whitehurst, associate minister at David Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Austin, Texas, recounts the tragic story of one of King David’s sons raping his half-sister and the revenge exacted by another of David’s sons. The trajectory of the story led to Absalom’s rebellion against David. Despite this tragedy, David continued to trust in God to sustain him. Rev. Whitehurst reminds us God is our Sustainer, whether we are in a position of power or weakness.

This sermon, placed on Rev. Whitehurst’s heart by God, was delivered during the morning worship service of David Chapel Missionary Baptist Church on August 12, 2018. Rev. Dr. Joseph Parker is the senior pastor.

The transcript of Rev. Whitehurst’s sermon is available here.
