Southern Baptists will be forced to draw down their overseas missions force in 2010 by as many as 600 missionaries, International Mission Board trustees were told Nov. 10.

The Georgia Baptist Convention has ended its 148-year-old relationship with First Baptist Church of Decatur, Ga., over the congregation's 2007 vote to hire a woman as senior pastor.

Three Southern Baptist churches were honored by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency with the Energy Star Congregation Award. First Baptist Church in Dallas, First Baptist Church in Springdale, Ark., and Idlewild Baptist Church in Lutz, Fla., each earned recognition for their efforts at reducing energy consumption.

American Christians must move beyond a theology of “me” to a theology of “we” in order to play a meaningful role in creation care, according to speakers at a two-day conference recently held Oct. 29-31 on the campus of Mercer University in Macon, Ga.

Messengers approve CP funds to lawsuits, two allocation options offered

RAYTOWN -- Missouri Baptist congregations will have to formally vote during a church business meeting if they wish to protect their Cooperative Program gifts from being used to fund ongoing legal action. Messengers to the 175th Missouri Baptist Convention annual meeting adopted an Executive Board recommendation that establishes CP allocation plans. Plan A, the default plan, designates 3 percent of CP allocations to be used to pay legal costs.
 
Crash victim remembered with random acts of kindness

On Oct. 29 lawyers took cases pro bono, a man installed a water heater for a disabled man who previously showered on his back porch and a man stopping to give a stranded motorist a jump wound up replacing her battery. All were acts of kindness to mark what would have been the 13th birthday of a girl killed this summer by injuries received in a church-bus accident.
