Over the last few months, we have had several students come and go within the Tyler Junior College Baptist Student Ministry.
Each student comes in from a different place in life spiritually, emotionally and mentally. They all are looking for one thing—hope. Each of our students, no matter where they are coming from or where they are headed, needs the hope of Jesus. We take every opportunity to share that hope with them.
The impact of one moment
Lately, God has been teaching me the impact one moment can have on our lives: Moments such as when you receive a phone call delivering bad news, the moment when someone first says they love you or the ultimate moment when you decide to humble yourself before God and follow him with all that you have.
Our students are no different. A small moment can radically change their lives. It seems like the greatest things always happen in the smallest moments.
God continues to work in the lives of many of our students as they come and go. Each day a simple hello and a smile from us can turn their day right-side up. It is that kind gesture that reminds them they are not alone in their trials and frustrations.
Walking across campus, we often come into contact with students who have not been around our building in a while. The opportunity to take that small moment, listen to them and share a kind word with them is what we seek out each day. It is amazing how God puts the exact people in our path that need him the most that day and in that very minute. We are learning not only to seize the day, but also to seize each moment because there will never be another one exactly like it.
