Meet our Staff


kenKen Camp, managing editor — Ken grew up in Greenville, Texas, and graduated from East Texas State University and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Before joining the Baptist Standard staff in 2004, he worked more than 19 years with the Baptist General Convention of Texas communications office, including seven years as news director and one year as interim communications director. He has won the Baptist Communicators Association's Frank Burkhalter Award for news writing twice, received the Religion Communicators Council's DeRose/Hinkhouse "best of class" writing award and been recognized for his writing by the Associated Church Press. He and his wife, Diane, have three sons, Daniel, Matthew and Nathan, and daughters-in-law, Lindsey and Devon. The Camps are members of South Garland Baptist Church in Garland, Texas.

bethBeth Campbell, executive assistant — Beth has been with Baptist Standard Publishing since 2000. She is responsible for providing administrative support to the editor and other management and professional staff. She also works with development, supporting and maintaining donor records. Beth is a native Midwesterner but calls Texas home after living in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex 44 years. Beth is a former vice president of Woman's Missionary Union of Texas and was a conference leader, specializing in Mission Friends. She and her husband, Rex, have a son, Nathan; daughter-in-law, Marcie; and two grandsons, Sam and Graham. The Campbells are members of Indian Hills Baptist Church in Grand Prairie, Texas.

georgeGeorge Henson, staff writer — George grew up in Duncanville, Texas, and still lives there. He is a graduate of the University of Texas at Arlington and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Before joining the Baptist Standard in 1994, he was managing editor of the Suburban Publishers Newspaper Group in south Dallas County and a reporter for the Waxahachie Daily Light. Under his editorship, the Duncanville Suburban won the Headliners Foundation Award for community journalism. He and his wife, De-De, have four children, Ryan, Colin, Evan and Micaela; daughters-in-law, Tara, Kinsey and Erin; and grandchildren, Ayden, Jade, Raven and Lukas. They are members of First Baptist Church in Duncanville.

marvMarv Knox, editor — Marv has been with Baptist Standard Publishing since 1995. Previously, he edited and reported on Baptist life in Kentucky, Tennessee, Louisiana and Georgia. Marv is a Texas native and graduate of Hardin-Simmons University and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. The Religion Communicators Council, Baptist Communicators Association, Associated Church Press, Evangelical Press Association and Press Club of Dallas have honored his writing and editing. He has served on and chaired a variety of religious and service organizations. He and his wife, Joanna, have two daughters, Lindsay Kahler and Molly Leverenz; sons-in-law, Aaron Kahler and David Leverenz; a grandson, Ezra Kahler, and granddaughter, Eleanor Leverenz. The Knoxes are members of Valley Ranch Baptist Church in Coppell, Texas.

kaylaKayla Peltoma, finance director — Kayla grew up in Plainview, Texas. She attended Wayland Baptist University and graduated from Texas Tech University. Before joining the Baptist Standard staff in 2007, she polished her accounting skills with jobs in banking, real estate and managed wealth. Kayla is responsible for budget preparation, investments, financial reports and internal control of all assets. Her father, Danny Andrews, served on the board of Baptist Standard Publishing from 1979 to 1988 and then again from 1990 to 1998. Kayla attends Prestonwood Baptist Church in Plano, Texas. She is married to Craig Peltoma.

johnJohn Rutledge, webmaster — John grew up in Dallas and graduated from Baylor University in 1973. He has worked for the Baptist Standard since then as a staff writer and as webmaster. He and his wife, Joysanna, live in Dallas, where they lead a Bible study in their home. They have two grown children and two grandchildren.

julieJulie Sorrels, sales and marketing manager — Julie grew up in Abilene, Texas. She graduated from Hardin-Simmons University, studied marketing and leadership at Dallas Baptist University and attends Logsdon Seminary. Prior to joining Baptist Standard Publishing in 2011, she worked at GuideStone Financial Resources in customer relations and marketing. She has been recognized by the Associated Church Press for her work in online social media marketing. Julie is a Stephen Minister and member of Wilshire Baptist Church in Dallas.
