| Travis Avenue Church in Fort Worth and Riverbend Retreat Center have dedicated a new family lodge at the camp to Joe and Tomi Lenamon. The 3,800-square-foot log building, given as a gift from the church to the camp, has four private rooms, a loft bedroom with five bunk beds, a full kitchen and dining area, and two gathering areas, including a great room with a fireplace. The construction was done by Texas Baptist Men, Campers on Mission, SOWERS and local church groups. The Lenamons are longtime members of the church, and he has served on the camp committee and now board of directors of the camp for 32 of the 38 years it has been in existence. |
Around the State
The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor will host the annual Senior Saints Summit May 16-19. Guest personalities include Paul Stripling, preacher; Constance Rey-nolds, Bible teacher; Larry Putnam, worship leader; and Al Staggs, banquet entertainer. The Burchfield Brothers and Stacey Price Preston also will perform concerts. The second annual “Singin' with the Saints” Southern gospel concert for senior adults will be held May 19 at 10 a.m. in Howard Payne University's Mims Auditorium. Featured performers will be the Melody Boys Quartet. Also performing will be the Brazos Boys Quartet, 4 X Grace and the Solid Rock Quartet. Under-wood's Cafeteria will cater the meal. Fourteen students have been selected from the state's Baptist universities as Young Maston Scholars for excellence in studies in Christian ethics. Selected were Joshua Broughton, East Texas Baptist University; Corey Cornutt, Hardin-Simmons University; Armando de la Garza, Baptist University of the Americas; Cole Detwiler, HSU; Anthony George, Houston Baptist University; Charles Glidewell, ETBU; Joel Gomez-Bossio, BUA; Erin Houchin, Howard Payne University; Carl Leake, Wayland Baptist University; Blake Matthews, HBU; Crystal Morton, WBU; Cameron Newton, Dallas Baptist Uni-versity; Meredith Pillion, HPU; and Brent Thomason, DBU.
Three faculty members and two staff members will retire from Hardin-Simmons University at the end of the spring semester. Tom Moritz, assistant professor of mathematics, will retire after 24 years at HSU. Frances Renfroe, assistant professor of mathematics, will conclude a 45-year teaching career. She joined the HSU faculty in 1992. Jimmie Monhollon, Johnson chair of economics/ finance, retires after 10 years of service at the school. Charles Richardson, director of media relations, joined the staff 30 years ago. Nancy Cone, administrative assistant to the faculty at the Patty Hanks Shelton School of Nursing, will close out a 42-year career in nursing education, including 24 years with the nursing school.
Ferrisa Childs has been promoted to assistant director of financial aid, and Karalee Fikes has been employed as financial aid loan officer at Howard Payne University.

Marshall Coen of Killeen has graduated from the Army's 13-week Chaplain Officer Basic Course. He will be assigned as a battalion chaplain in Mannheim, Germany. He is a former member of First Church in Killeen.
Seven students majoring in biblical languages at Houston Baptist University have been awarded scholarships for a Hebrew course at Cambridge University. They are Heather Clark, Josh Dyson, Tracy Gorman, Tonya Hall, Jessica Lankford, Angie West-moreland and Ryan Wiley. The course will consist of five hours of intensive language instruction daily as well as various activities, including a visit to the Taylor-Schechter Genizah collection, a priceless accumulation of centuries-old Hebrew manuscript material and Judaica recovered from the Cairo Genizah in 1896-97 and now housed at the Cambridge University Library.

Debbie Rogers, secretary in the East Texas Baptist University advising and career development center, was named first runner-up for employee of the year by the Greater Marshall Chamber of Commerce.
Retiring
Ron Durham, as pastor of Columbus Avenue Church in Waco, May 1. He served the church 32 years, coming initially as college minister and associate pastor. He was named the church's pastor in 1980. Prior to moving to Waco, he was a Baptist Student Ministry director at Del Mar College in Corpus Christi three years.
Mary Stephens, as senior vice president and general manager of Buckner Retire-ment Services, May 31. She began her career with Buckner in 1980, joining Buckner Children's Home as dietician and food service director. She also has been director of nutrition services, vice president of professional services, special assistant to the president's office and executive director of Buckner Retirement Village.
