Baptists Preaching is a column from the Baptist Standard. It is not an effort to advance any one theology or style but to present what a collection of Baptists considers a word from God. Likewise, Baptists Preaching offers a repository of Baptist preaching for future study and research. To recommend a sermon to be featured in Baptists Preaching, please contact [email protected].

David Baker: When A Nation Walks Away From God

David Baker is a longtime member of Bois D’Arc Baptist Church east of Palestine, Texas, who preaches and teaches on occasion and helps maintain church communications. He is a retired business executive who combined business and evangelism during 30 years of travel to more than 50 countries.

Baker focuses on the consequences when a nation walks away from God, saying, “Its only destination is hell.” He points to such things as tolerance, greed, corrupt elected officials, sexual perversion, abortion and socialism as characterizing the train to hell. Moral laxity is evident in an erosion of constitutional freedoms and the American way of life, as well as the pervasiveness of abortion and sexual sin. Baker points to God’s wrath upon the disobedient and calls his hearers to repentance.

This sermon was delivered on Feb. 16, 2020, at Bois D’Arc Baptist Church near Palestine.
