Dr. Ray Malone: It’s a Blessing to Follow the Leader (Numbers 9:15-23)

Dr. Ray Malone, director of human resources for the Baptist General Convention of Texas, began by pointing to the redundancy of the Scripture passage, noting such redundancy is a lesson God wants to get across. The time in the wilderness was a 40-year lesson in following the leader—learning to obey God and be protected or disobey and be disciplined.

God is present in times of trouble and leads through them, Malone asserted. God manifests his presence in different ways to different people, he added. Referring to Paul in 1 Corinthians 11:1, Malone contended pastors and other human leaders who follow Christ can be manifestations of God’s presence and are to be followed.

This sermon was delivered Aug. 1, 2021, for the morning worship service of Ridglea Baptist Church in Fort Worth, where Dr. Malone was a guest preacher.
