Baptists Preaching is a column from the Baptist Standard. It is not an effort to advance any one theology or style but to present what a collection of Baptists considers a word from God. Likewise, Baptists Preaching offers a repository of Baptist preaching for future study and research. To recommend a sermon to be featured in Baptists Preaching, please contact [email protected].

Jason Burden: Wrestling With God (Genesis 32:22-32)

Jason Burden, senior pastor of First Baptist Church in Nederland, Texas, and first vice president of the Baptist General Convention of Texas, begins by asking how those around us would describe God’s impact on our lives. He also uses professional wrestling as an illustration for the historic Baptist principle called soul freedom, the blessing that each person can relate directly to God. Burden explains how people can engage in this one-on-one relationship with God to allow God to shape our lives in order to influence others.

This sermon was delivered during the morning worship service at First Baptist Church in Nederland on June 23, 2019. In the video below, the sermon begins at 26:48. The outline for this sermon is available here.
