Luis Juárez: How to Persevere in the Middle of Crisis (2 Timothy 2:1-7)

Luis Juárez—vice president of student affairs and communications, and dean of students for Criswell College in Dallas—contended perseverance is the necessary attitude for getting through life’s crises. He finds in Paul’s instructions to Timothy three examples of perseverance.

The soldier is obedient to the orders received, going where he or she is sent to do what he or she is told to do. Likewise, the Christian must obey God unconditionally. This obedience gives sustaining strength, Juárez said.

The athlete demonstrates discipline in training. Likewise, Christians are to practice spiritual disciplines like prayer and Bible reading, Juárez said. The farmer is a third example, this one of patience, waiting and trusting in the Lord. The Lord works in both our spiritual training and in our lives, he continued.

Juárez said crises come into our lives unexpected and then shared a personal crisis that struck him and his family when he was 17. Using his personal example, Juárez proclaimed we know how crises end when we are in Christ; the end is victory.

The sermon is in Spanish.

This sermon was delivered on July 31, 2022, for the morning worship service of Comunidad Primera Iglesia Bautista in Magnolia. Juárez was the guest preacher.
