Baptists Preaching is a new column from the Baptist Standard. It is not an effort to advance any one theology or style but to present what a collection of Baptists considers a word from God. Likewise, Baptists Preaching offers a repository of Baptist preaching for future study and research. To recommend a sermon to be featured in Baptists Preaching, please contact [email protected].

Patrick Adair: The Dream Team (Mark 9:2-10)

Patrick Adair

Patrick Adair, pastor of The Crossing Baptist Church in Mesquite, Texas, compares the 1992 U.S. Olympic men’s basketball to Jesus, Moses and Elijah. After the Dream Team beat Cuba, the Cuban coach said about the U.S. team, “You can’t cover the sun with your finger.” After Jesus was transfigured and appeared with Moses and Elijah, God told Peter, James and John, “This is my Son. Listen to him.” Adair challenges us to listen to and obey Jesus.

This sermon was delivered during the morning worship service at The Crossing Baptist Church on February 11, 2018, Transfiguration Sunday, and is based on the lectionary passage for that Sunday.
