Baptists Preaching is a column from the Baptist Standard. It is not an effort to advance any one theology or style but to present what a collection of Baptists considers a word from God. Reid Johnson: The Word in You

Reid Johnson, pastor of Colonial Hill Baptist Church in Snyder, recited Psalm 1 and called his hearers to meditate on God’s word. “God doesn’t just desire for you to be in his word; he desires for his word to be in you,” Johnson said. He followed with five reasons for memorizing Scripture.

Christians should memorize Scripture to conform to Christ, to comfort themselves and others, to combat sin, to communicate the gospel, and to commune with God.

Johnson suggested memorizing the following verses for communicating the gospel: Isaiah 43:7, 1 Corinthians 10:31, Romans 3:23, Romans 6:23, Ephesians 2:3, 1 Timothy 1:15, John 3:16, 2 Corinthians 5:21, Acts 16:31, Romans 10:9 and Ephesians 2:8-9.

This sermon was delivered May 2, 2021, for the morning worship service of Colonial Hill Baptist Church in Snyder.
