Baptists Preaching is a column from the Baptist Standard. It is not an effort to advance any one theology or style but to present what a collection of Baptists considers a word from God. Likewise, Baptists Preaching offers a repository of Baptist preaching for future study and research. To recommend a sermon to be featured in Baptists Preaching, please contact eric.black@baptiststandard.com.

This sermon begins the second year of Baptists Preaching.

Tony Watson: Beyond What You Are Able (1 Corinthians 10:13)

Tony Watson, pastor of First Baptist Church in Palestine, Texas, examines a well-known and frequently misunderstood Bible verse—1 Corinthians 10:13—explaining what Paul means by stating that God “will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear.” He instructs his hearers to take Paul’s statement within the larger context of Paul’s letter to the Corinthians. Temptation will come to all of us and is an opportunity to grow in Christ … for those who will stand on God’s grace and yield to the Advocate. The outline for this sermon is available here.

This sermon was delivered during the morning worship service at First Baptist Church in Palestine on June 30, 2019 as the fourth sermon in a series titled “Give Me the Truth.”
