The Power of the 72

By John Teter (InterVarsity Press)

John Teter, senior pastor at Fountain of Life Covenant Church in Long Beach, Calif., and executive director of its church-starting wing, Fountain of Life Antioch, explores the theme of “Ordinary Disciples in Extraordinary Evangelism.”

Teter bases his book on Luke 10: 1-20, in which Jesus sends out 72 disciples. The book is divided into two sections—the first three chapters focused on theology and the next five chapters that provide application.

This book is begging for a sequel on discipleship, as this book deals with examples of those going out and leading people to Christ. Little is mentioned about intentional discipleship. Teter mentions prayer as a necessary component to reaching others for Christ.

This book includes helpful mid-chapter and end-of-chapter notes, and it ends with a chapter-by-chapter bibliography.

Teter offers additional resources online here.
