Around the State: Bounce at work in Waco

Bounce Waco 350Monica Dewey from Paramount Baptist Church in Amarillo works on a home rehabilitation project in Waco as part of a Bounce team.One hundred and fifty middle-school and high-school students volunteered with Texas Baptists’ Bounce student disaster recovery program to rehabilitate homes in Waco for families in need. Columbus Avenue Baptist Church in Waco provided the students hot meals and a place to shower. Bounce worked in partnership with Waco Community Development and Waco Regional Baptist Association.

Jason Bryant joined the Baptist General Convention of Texas Executive Board staff as western-heritage consultant and church starter. About 200 western-heritage churches throughout Texas are affiliated with the BGCT. Bryant has been founding pastor of Triple S Cowboy Church in Palestine since 2011. Previously, he started 3C Cowboy Fellowship in Salado. Bryant earned his bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M University and a master of divinity degree in biblical languages from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He and his wife, Elizabeth, have three daughters.

Dallas Baptist University will sponsor a Summer Patriot Preview for prospective students and their parents July 29. Prospective students will have the opportunity to tour the campus, visit with faculty and administrators, and receive information about admissions, financial aid, campus activities and other aspects of life at DBU. Guests also will hear from current students about their experience. The event is free of charge for a prospective student and up to two guests. DBU’s Columbus Day Patriot Preview is scheduled for Oct. 10, and the Fall Patriot Preview is slated for Nov. 12. For more information, call (214) 333-5360, email [email protected] or click here.  

Retiring

Larry Vowell as area representative for the Baptist General Convention of Texas, effective July 31. He served in that role four and a half years. Previously, he worked with Waco and Collin Baptist associations and on church staffs in Dallas, Longview, Waco and Grapevine during his 50 years in ministry. He and his wife, Brenda, will continue to live in Trophy Club, and he will be available for consultations in church growth, congregational revitalization, leadership development and church administration.
