Around the State: Brazilian pastor speaks at Wayland

Paulo Lino, pastor of Sinai Baptist Church in Salvador, Brazil, delivered Wayland Baptist University’s McCoy Missions Lectures. Lino, who has served in ministry 40 years, told students the key to happiness is fearing and serving God.

Christian Wiman, senior lecturer in religion and literature at the christian wiman100Christian WimanYale Institute of Sacred Music, is the featured speaker at Hardin-Simmons University’s Lawrence Clayton Poets and Writers Speakers Series, April 14. Wiman was born and grew up in Snyder. He will speak in the chapel service, answer questions during a 4 p.m. session, read poetry at 8 p.m. and sign his books at a 9 p.m. reception.

Buckner Children and Family Services will present a free foster care and adoption information meeting April 17 at 7 p.m. at 5200 Buckner Boulevard in Dallas. Participants will receive an overview of foster care and adoption options in Texas, including foster-to-adopt, Waiting Texas Children and domestic infant adoption programs. Young evangelicals at Hardin-Simmons University held a day of prayer and action on climate change April 3 as a part of a weeklong series of events on 20 Christian campuses across the United States.

Twenty-four Dallas Baptist University students, faculty and staff traveled to Washington D.C. with the school’s Cook School of Leadership. Students studied leadership and power through the examination of the lives of America’s founding fathers. Some of the sites visited were the White House, the Capitol, the Supreme Court building and the Library of Congress.

Christian rapper and author Trip Lee spoke at an East Texas Baptist University chapel service about grace and gift of salvation.
