A Dallas Baptist University study group recently traveled to Germany to explore the lives and legacies of Martin Luther and Dietrich Bonhoeffer. Students visited Wittenberg, where Luther nailed his 95 Theses to the door of the Castle Church 500 years ago and launched the Protestant Reformation. They also toured sites related to Bonhoeffer and learned about Christian resistance to the Nazi regime. Faculty who accompanied the students and delivered on-sites lectures included Brent Thomason, Michael Whiting, Jay Harley and David Cook.

Newman Honors Academy recently were selected as Sumners Scholars—Jessica Catlett from Alleyton, Augusta Johnson from Gatesville, Tyler Olin from Howe and Emma Reed from Arlington. Acceptance into the Sumners Scholar Program, created by the Hatton W. Sumners Foundation, is based on an assessment of academic excellence, a sense of civic responsibility and leadership potential. Students are selected for the four-semester program after an in-depth application and interview process by the trustees of the Sumners Foundation. The foundation provides a $7,500-per-semester stipend for participating students to use for tuition, fees, books, or room and board. Sumners Scholars also are provided opportunities to attend annual leadership and policy analysis conferences.

The American Psychological Association recently accredited Baylor University Counseling Center’s doctoral internship program. Every candidate for a doctorate in clinical or counseling psychology is required to complete a yearlong internship after completing coursework. The 2,000-hour internship includes 500 hours of direct clinical intervention. Accreditation requires programs to develop a well-defined model for training doctoral candidates measured against rigorous training standards.

Baylor University’s Louise Herrington School of Nursing added three staff—Madison Adcock as coordinator of recruitment and enrollment, Brittany Doulaye as research and grant coordinator and Cené Griffin Linares as coordinator of pre-nursing services.
