Around the State: Hundreds run for Shoes for Orphan Souls

Proceeds from numerous Buckner Barefoot Runs will benefit children around the world who need shoes.

More than 200 people participated in the fourth annual Barefoot Run at Bachman Lake in Dallas benefitting Buckner Shoes for Orphan Souls. In addition, 317 runners from 39 cities and 15 states partnered to Run Where You Live during the week of the run in an effort to increase awareness of orphans and vulnerable children. Proceeds from both runs will benefit children around the world who need shoes.

The award is given annually to two students who exhibit exceptional servant leadership. Each winner was presented a miniature replica of Max Greiner’s sculpture of Jesus washing the feet of Simon Peter and a scholarship award.

An R3 Summit for ministers and church leaders will be held Nov. 14-15 at Life Church in San Antonio. Titled “The Non-Negotiables of a Risk Taker,” conference speakers include Daniel Sanabria, Oscar Castillo, Sammy Lopez, Scott Willingham, Rudy Gonzalez and Gary Patterson. The conference is sponsored by San Antonio Baptist Association, the Baptist General Convention of Texas and local churches. For more information, click here

The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor dedicated its newest campus facility, the umhb bawcom300UMHB President Jerry G. The hundreds of people in attendance each participated in cutting the 300-yard purple ribbon. Also announced during the ceremony was the naming of the McLane Great Hall on the third floor of building. Elizabeth and Drayton McLane Jr. and their family made the largest gift in UMHB history to the stadium and student union project. The multifunctional space is large enough to accommodate a banquet for 600 people but also can be divided into smaller spaces for events involving smaller groups.
