Around the State: Movement Day leadership meet set

More than 2,500 area leaders are expected for the second annual Movement Day Greater Dallas Jan. 22 at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in Dallas. The day seeks to bring Christians together to achieve measurable progress in response to the city’s spiritual, social and humanitarian challenges. Jeff Warren, pastor of Park Cities Baptist Church in Dallas, Bryan Carter of Concord Missionary Baptist Church in Dallas and Jim Denison, founder of the Denison Forum on Truth and Culture are among the speakers in the 8:30 a.m. to noon opening session. Breakout sessions focusing on topics such as education; the Explore God initiative, a seven-week sermon series that will encourage people to explore the big questions about God; financial stability; human trafficking; immigrant care; orphan care; hunger and others will be held from noon to 3:15 p.m. Matt Chandler, pastor of The Village Church in Flower Mound, will be among the speakers in the 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. session. East Texas Baptist University awarded degrees to etbu fall commencement425Payton Beggs of Wichita Falls received the President’s Award during East Texas Baptist University’s fall commencement ceremony. The award is presented to a graduating senior judged by the faculty to be the best all-around student enrolled at the university. Interim President Lawrence Ressler made the presentation.72 students during its fall commencement ceremony. Fifty-nine students received bachelor’s degrees, and 13 earned master’s degrees. Six students received master of business administration in entrepreneurial leadership degrees from the Fred Hale School of Business—the first graduates of the program.

Literacy Connexus will offer training for teachers of adult English-as-a-Second-Language students Feb. 6-7 at San Antonio Baptist Association. Friday’s session will be from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., and Saturday’s training will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The training is sequential, so attendance at both sessions is required. The 14th annual Baylor University Sacred Harp Singing is sacred harp300set for Feb. 7 in the Great Hall of Truett Theological Seminary. The event will begin at 9:30 a.m. with an introduction to Sacred Harp singing. The introduction will lead to the morning sing. Following a lunch break, singing will begin again and conclude at 3 p.m. The event is free. For more information, call (254) 772-5572.
