Around the State: [un]Apologetic conference set for Plano

Hunters Glen Baptist Church in Plano will be host to the [un]Apologetic Conference, a regional Texas Baptists meeting that addresses ways to remove obstacles to evangelism, Jan. 30-31. Speakers will include Lee Strobel, Mike Lincona and Mark Mittleberg.

Buckner Children and Family Services will present a free foster-care and adoption information meeting Jan. 15 at 7 p.m. at 5200 Buckner Blvd. in Dallas. Participants will receive an overview of foster care and adoption options in Texas, including foster-to-adopt, Waiting Texas Children, and domestic infant adoption and international adoption programs. Baylor University has appointed Edwin Trevathan executive vice president and provost, effective June 1. He presently is dean of the College for Public Health and Social Justice at Saint Louis University.

Dallas Baptist University has named Bob Brooks, dean of the Graduate School of Ministry, outstanding faculty member of the year. He is a member of Park Cities Baptist Church in Dallas.

Anniversary

Maurice Smith, 65th, of his ordination at Whon Baptist Church in Coleman County while a college student. A graduate of Howard Payne College and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, he has served as a pastor in Texas, a foreign missionary in Ghana, a home missionary and staff member of the former Southern Baptist Home Mission Board and an adjunct teacher in four Baptist seminaries. He also was an adjunct instructor of religion at the San Antonio campus of Wayland Baptist University. He currently resides in New Braunfels.
