Texas Baptists’ Disaster Recovery program and Texas Baptist Men are mobilizing volunteers to repair flood-damaged homes in the greater Houston area Aug. 25-27, Sept. 29-Oct. 1 and Oct. 27-29. Volunteers will serve uninsured, underinsured, disabled and elderly families and individuals affected by floods. Help is needed to hang drywall; tape, bed and texture walls; install ceramic floor tile; install doors; do trim work; roof houses; remove debris; and provide mold remediation. Duane Brooks, pastor of Tallowood Baptist Church in Houston, will be the guest speaker at the 10:45 a.m. worship service. The Lyles family will be recognized during an informal come-and-go reception in South Main’s family life center from 2 to 4 p.m. Lyles is past chair of the Baptist General Convention of Texas Executive Board.

Retirement

Donn Wisdom as minister of music and worship arts at Trinity Baptist Church in San Antonio.

Fielder Church in Arlington will mark the 25th anniversary and retirement of Gary Smith as senior pastor, Aug. 14. Special events begin Aug. 12 when Smith throws out the ceremonial first pitch at the 7 p.m. Texas Rangers game at Globe Life Park. During a 10 a.m. service on Aug. 14 at the church’s Arlington campus, Mayor Jeff Williams will issue a proclamation declaring Gary Smith Day in Arlington. Guest speakers include former mayor Richard Greene, Tillie Burgin of Mission Arlington and Dwight McKissic of Cornerstone Baptist Church in Arlington. Jason Paredes is lead pastor at Fielder Church.
