Around the State: [un]Apologetic conference

The schedule for the Texas Baptists (un)Apologetic conferences has been set. Host sites and dates are: Grace Point Church in San Antonio, Feb. 28-March 1; lee strobel130Lee StrobelFirst Baptist Church in Wichita Falls, March 28-29; and Woodridge Baptist Church in Kingwood, April 4-5. The conferences will address removing obstacles to evangelism. Speakers include Lee Strobel, Mark Mittelberg, Mike Licona, Greg Koukl, Mary Jo Sharp and Sammy Lopez. The cost is $45 at the door or $30 if registration is made two weeks prior to the conference date. Students pay $15. For more information, click here

Baylor University will hold its 13th annual Sacred Harp Singing Feb. 8 in the Great Hall of the George W. Truett Theological Seminary. The event will begin at 9:30 a.m. with an introduction to Sacred Harp singing. After a lunch break, singing will begin again and conclude at 3 p.m. For more information, call (254) 772-5572.

Jennifer Weaver has joined the faculty of Dallas Baptist University as an assistant professor of music. She is a member of Wilshire Baptist Church in Dallas.

Ashley Moon, a Howard Payne University sophomore from Waxahachie, received a scholarship through the Consortium for Global Education to study in London this semester. She will produce weekly video blogs about her experiences.

The Watoto Children’s Choir from Africa will sing at churches across the state. The choir raises awareness of the plight of the orphaned and vulnerable children of Africa. Each child in the choir has lost one or both parents. Dates included in their concert schedule are Southmont Baptist Church in Denton, 5 p.m., Jan. 25; Lakeside Baptist Church in Granbury, 6 p.m., Jan. 26; First Baptist Church in Granbury, 6 p.m., Jan. 28; First Baptist Church in Lockhart, 7 p.m., Jan. 31; First Baptist Church in Castroville, 9 a.m. and 11 a.m., Feb. 2; Wilshire Baptist Church in Dallas, 6:30 p.m., Feb. 9; and Immanuel Baptist Church in Odessa, 7 p.m., Feb. 12.
