Baptist Briefs: Immigration reform

SBC agency chief meets with Obama. Russell Moore, president of the Southern Baptist Convention’s Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission, joined a small group of faith leaders invited to the White House to discuss immigration reform with President Obama, Vice President Biden and senior administration officials. The group also included Leith Anderson of the National Council of Evangelicals, Joel Hunter of Northland Church in Orlando, Fla., and Jim Wallis of Sojourners. Administration officials in the meeting included Melissa Rogers, executive director of the White House Office of Faith-based and Neighborhood Partnerships and former general counsel for the Baptist Joint Committee for Religious Liberty.

BWA leader advocates Christian unity. Neville Callam, general secretary of the Baptist World Alliance, and Metropolitan Nifan of the Romanian Orthodox Church spoke about the aspirations and challenges inherent in Christian unity during the10th assembly of the World Council of Churches in Busan, South Korea. Callam urged Christians to find commonalities on authoritative sources and foster theological thinking on unity among youth.
