The sale of Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary, a 126-acre Southern Baptist campus with views of San Francisco Bay, brought $85 million. The buyer is North Coast Land Holdings, a billion-dollar trust of a family foundation started with wealth from oil and ranching in Texas a century ago. The seminary plans to use sale proceeds to relocate its main campus from Mill Valley, Calif., to Southern California, and for a new regional campus in the San Francisco Bay Area. Seminary President Jeff Iorg said the deal adds $50 million into an endowment, which took 70 years to gather a total of $21 million prior to the property sale. The sale includes a two-year lease-back, allowing the seminary to continue operations at the current site while officials finalize an agreement for the new campus, expected to be announced in a few weeks.

SBC leader calls Central American violence prompting border crisis a ‘moral disgrace.’ Southern Baptist leader Russell Moore believes unchecked violence by drug cartels in Latin America is driving migrant children toward the United States. russell moore88Russell MooreMoore, head of the SBC Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission, recently toured facilities for immigrant children in McAllen and San Antonio. He told an MSNBC reporter the children reported they made the dangerous trek to the United States because they feared violence inflicted by drug cartels in their home countries. “What is happening in these countries is immoral and as a Christian—as a follower of Jesus Christ—I believe that every person has dignity and every person has worth, and the assault on human dignity going on in the unchecked violence from these drug cartels in these countries is a moral disgrace,” Moore said.
