SBC leader backtracks on radio comments. After being criticized for linking same-sex marriage and gays in the Boy Scouts to North Korea’s threat to start a nuclear war, Southern Baptist Convention President Fred Luter said he misspoke in a radio interview with talk-show host Rick Wiles and believes there is no direct connection between the two. Luter appeared on CNN’s Anderson Cooper 360 to explain whether he stands by his comments. “The Scripture I was talking about was the situation in Sodom and Gomorrah, where a city was destroyed because of that type of activity, but I was not directly connecting it with North Korea and what’s happening here in America,” Luter said.

(Photo by CBFNC)Ministers affiliated with the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship of North Carolina rallied on the steps of First Baptist Church in Winston-Salem to call on their representatives in Washington to support “comprehensive, fair immigration reform” that supports “the common good.” Glenn Pettiford, associate pastor at First Baptist Church in Winston-Salem, said the demonstration was timely because Congress is in recess and most of its members are in their home districts. The Senate has not yet introduced a bill modeled after a framework for comprehensive immigration reform put forth in January by a bipartisan group of eight senators nicknamed the “gang of eight.”
