FALLS CHURCH, Va.—Emmett Dunn resigned as director of the Baptist World Alliance youth department and the Baptist World Youth Congress to become pastor of West Hyattsville Baptist Church in Hyattsville, Md.

“I attach great value to this organization and will always cherish the years I served,” he said regarding his 22 years with the BWA, which will end July 31.

Emmett DunnDunn, a native of Liberia, pledged his continued support to the international Baptist organization.

“Because of my commitment to the BWA and belief in the value it brings to the global family, I am making myself available to serve in whatever capacity that may become available,” he said.

BWA General Secretary Neville Callam commended Dunn for his long-term service to the alliance.

“During this period, Emmett has participated in numerous national and regional events involving Baptist youth around the world,” Callam said, noting Dunn’s leadership of youth events in Houston; Hong Kong; Leipzig, Germany; and Singapore. Dunn also served nine years as logistics director for the BWA annual gathering and for the Baptist World Congress events in England, Hawaii and South Africa.

“BWA owes a huge debt of gratitude to him,” Callam said. “Emmett’s return to the pastorate is based on the conviction that this is what the Holy Spirit is leading him to do, and we expect him to be as effective in his leadership of a local church as he was in service with BWA.”
