NASHVILLE (BP)—After Southern Baptist Convention Executive Committee officers meet with the agency’s vice presidents by the end of January, the officers will recommend one of them to serve as interim president, Chairman Rolland Slade said.

The SBC Executive Committee will consider the officers’ recommendation at its February meeting, Slade said.

Executive Committee bylaws gives officers the responsibility to designate a vice president to act as interim when the president/CEO post is vacant.

Current Executive Committee vice presidents are Jonathan Howe, communications; Willie McLaurin, Great Commission relations and mobilization; and Jeff Pearson, chief financial officer.

“We certainly appreciate the patience that has been shown to us in these critical times,” said Slade. “Our vice presidents are each godly men who have worked cohesively with the officers to provide leadership that has not gone unnoticed.”

In addition to Slade, officers include Vice Chair Stacy Bramlett and Secretary Monte Shinkle, along with committee chairs Erik Cummings, convention events and strategic planning; Andrew Hunt, convention missions and ministry; Jim Gregory, Southern Baptist relations; and Archie Mason, convention finances and stewardship development.

The Executive Committee president’s position became vacant Nov. 1 after Ronnie Floyd announced Oct. 14 his intention to resign at the end of that month. Floyd had served as Executive Committee president since May 2019.
