Texans tapped for BWA service

The Baptist World Alliance selected about two dozen Texas Baptists for service on the global organization’s committees and commissions during the 20th Baptist World Congress this summer.

HONOLULU—The Baptist World Alliance selected about two dozen Texas Baptists for service on the global organization’s committees and commissions during the 20th Baptist World Congress this summer.

The Texans and their assignments are:

• Larry Ashlock, professor of pastoral care and ethics at the B.H. Carroll Theological Institute and member of Travis Avenue Baptist Church in Fort Worth—Commission on Christian Ethics

• Judy Battles, staff member at Baylor University’s Truett Theological Seminary and member of First Baptist Church in Arlington—Commission on Ministry

• Elijah Brown, assistant professor of religion at East Texas Baptist University and member of First Baptist Church in Marshall—Commission on Religious Freedom

• Karen Bullock, professor of church history at the B.H. Carroll Theological Institute and member of Matthew Road Baptist Church in Grand Prairie—Commission on Baptist Heritage and Identity; Commission on Religious Freedom; Freedom & Justice Advisory Committee

• Jerry Carlisle, pastor of First Baptist Church in Plano—Executive Committee; Budget & Finance Committee; Human Resources Committee

• Gary Cook, president of Dallas Baptist University and a member of Park Cities Baptist Church in Dallas—General Council; Promotion and Development Advisory Committee

• Randel Everett, executive director of the Baptist General Convention of Texas Executive Board and member of Park Cities Baptist Church in Dallas—Executive Committee; Program Planning Committee

• Chris Liebrum, director of the BGCT Executive Board’s Education/Discipleship Center and member of First Baptist Church of Garland—Human Resources Committee

• Suzii Paynter, director of the BGCT Christian Life Commission and member of First Baptist Church in Austin—Baptist World Aid

• Bill Pinson, executive director emeritus of the BGCT Executive Board and member of First Baptist Church of Lancaster—Commission on Baptist Heritage and Identity

• Royce Rose, director of theological education for the BGCT Executive Board and member of Western Hills Baptist Church in Fort Worth—Commission on Theological Education and Leadership Formation

• Don Sewell, director of Faith in Action Initiatives for Baylor Health Care System and member of First Baptist Church in Grapevine—Commission on Human Rights Advocacy

• Bernie Spooner, retired BGCT Executive Board staff member and member of Plymouth Park Baptist Church in Irving—Commission on Theological Education and Leadership Formation; Mission, Evangelism and Theological Reflection Advisory Committee

• Steve Stookey, professor of Christian heritage at Dallas Baptist University and member of University Baptist Church in Fort Worth—Commission on Baptist Heritage and Identity

• Bill Tillman, the T.B. Maston professor of Christian ethics at Hardin-Simmons University’s Logsdon Seminary and member of First Baptist Church in Abilene—Commission on Christian Ethics

• Steve Vernon, BGCT associate executive director and member of First Baptist Church in Plano—Commission on Worship & Spirituality

Also, Leta Tillman, a member of First Baptist Church in Abilene, was elected to a five-year term on the BWA General Council.
