Obituary: Travis Blaisdell

Blaisdell 150Travis LeRoy Blaisdella Texas native and Southern Baptist chaplain in the U.S. Air Force, died June 2 in Hopewell, Va. He was 88. Blaisdell was born Dec. 12, 1927 in Corpus Christi. He earned his undergraduate degree from Howard Payne University and four degrees—bachelor of divinity, master of divinity, master of religious education and master of arts—from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. During his 28 years as a chaplain in the U.S. Air Force, he served in Korea, Turkey, Portugal, Azores, Okinawa and Panama. His stateside assignments included service as Kelly Air Force Base, Amarillo Air Force Base and Randolph Air Force Base. He later served as a pastor in Marquette, Mich., and in multiple interim pastorates. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Carolyn Gates Blaisdell of Hopewell, Va.; three daughters, Lynn Shaw, Sandra Miller and Laura Carr-Adamick; and six grandchildren.
