Obituaries: Doris Kelley, Dorothy Poole

Doris Kelley, 91, Sept. 19 in New Orleans. After she was orphaned at an early age, she was raised by her maternal grandparents. Growing up, she was a member of First Baptist Church Doris Kelleyin San Antonio, where she later served as a secretary. After marrying Charles Kelley, the couple moved to Beaumont, where he was a managing partner of Kelley-Hixon Funeral Home. They were members of First Baptist Church in Beaumont 40 years before moving to New Orleans in 2002. There, they attended First Baptist Church in New Orleans. Endowed scholarships for women at both Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary were created in her honor in recent years. She was preceded in death by her husband. She is survived by her daughters, Dorothy Patterson, Kathy Kelley, Charlene Coe and Eileen Turrentine; son, Chuck; eight grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.

Dorothy Poole, 89, Oct. 1 in Mansfield. A teacher for 20 years, she also was a founder and board member of the Grayson County Crippled Children’s Center. She was a Sunday school teacher, missions leader and youth sponsor. She was honored as an alumna-by-choice of Baylor University. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Willis; daughter, Pamela Poole; and sister, Georganna Brigham. She is survived by her daughter, Patti Jones; son, Philip; five grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
