Obituaries: Wally Christian, Esther Flores, Richard Knapton

Wally Christian, 88, Nov. 30 in Waco. Wally ChristianHe was the Macon Professor Emeritus at Baylor University, where he taught historical theology more than 40 years. He wrote five books and was an accomplished poet. He is survived by his wife, Betty; daughters, Anne Buchanan and Suzii Parsons; sons, Robert and David; and five grandchildren.

Esther Flores, 67, Dec. 4 in Pearsall. esther flores94Esther FloresHer husband, Frank, is pastor of Mision Bautista Gethsemani in Carrizo Springs and Asherton Baptist Mission in Asherton. In addition to her husband of 46 years, she is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Machuca; brothers, Efrain, Samuel and John Molina; sisters, Sarah Davila, Naomi Soto, Ruth Alaniz and Ofalinda Hernandez; and four grandchildren.

Richard Knapton, 78, Dec. 9 in San Antonio. A member of other denominations previously, he marked his membership as a Baptist with his baptism in 1972 at First Baptist Church in Euless. richard knapton130Richard KnaptonHe lived out his faith through a life of integrity and service to others as a coach and mentor to youth. Last year, he was diagnosed with ALS. Even as symptoms of the neurological disease progressed, he was active in events and videos that helped build awareness and support in the effort to find a cure. His son, Kurt, is a member of the Baptist Standard board of directors. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Sandra; sons Brent and Kurt; daughter, Kristin Sedate; brothers, Jim and Doug; and eight grandchildren.
