Obituary: Bob Lawrence

Bob Lawrence, 92, Sept. 8 in Amarillo. While a student at Hardin-Simmons University, he served Calvary Baptist Church, Sunset Baptist Church and Southside Baptist Church, all of Abilene, as music director. While serving at Sunset, he was ordained to the ministry. Following graduation, he was called as music and education director at Bob LawrenceCalvary Baptist Church in Mineral Wells. He later moved to First Baptist Church in Decatur, where he was serving when he graduated from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He then served nine years as minister of music and education at First Baptist Church in Hereford. He left Texas to serve two churches in Colorado. When the Northern Plains Baptist Convention formed in 1967, covering four western states, he became director of the music and education departments. In 1975, he began serving in a similar capacity with the Colorado Baptist Convention. He retired in 1984. In 2005, he moved to Amarillo and joined First Baptist Church there. He was preceded in death by his brother, Gene, and sister, Carol Meisenheimer. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Charlene; daughter, Lanell Adler; son, Don; sisters, Norma Daniel and Betty Evans; one grandson; and one step-great-grandson.
