Gene Jorgenson, longtime Baptist pastor and evangelism consultant, died Feb. 1. He was 90.

Gene Jorgenson, longtime Baptist pastor and evangelism consultant, died Feb. 1. He was 90. He was born in Stephens County, Okla., on Feb. 28, 1930. Jorgenson was called into the ministry in 1953 while serving in the U.S. Air Force and was ordained by Beacon Baptist Church in Wichita Falls. He received his education at Hardin-Simmons University and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Jorgenson was pastor of eight Texas Baptist churches, and he also participated in many evangelistic efforts in several countries with World Evangelism Foundation. He worked eight years on the Baptist General Convention of Texas evangelism staff. He was pastor of First Baptist Church in Marlow, Okla., six years before he went to the Southern Baptist Convention Home Mission Board as a consultant, planning two national evangelistic events. After he retired, he served 24 interim pastorates at churches throughout South Central Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Blanche. He is survived by a daughter, Karen Sue Smith and her husband Ron; three grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
