Obituary: Joseph “Don” Robertson

Joseph “Don” Robertson of Lubbock, Baptist pastor in Texas and New Mexico, died Nov. 29, 2020, after a six-year battle with cancer. He was 74.

Joseph “Don” Robertson of Lubbock, Baptist pastor in Texas and New Mexico, died Nov. 29, 2020, after a six-year battle with cancer. He was 74. He was born Nov. 1, 1946, in Clovis, N.M., to J.M. and Della Mae Robertson. Don grew up in Tucumcari, N.M., where he came to know Jesus Christ as his Savior at age 9. While attending Wayland Baptist University, he met his future wife Barbara, and they married on Aug. 26, 1966. During his four decades as a pastor, he served First Baptist Church in Grady, N.M.; First Baptist Church in Edmonson; Blodgett Street Baptist Church in Carlsbad, N.M.; and College Heights Baptist Church in Plainview. He was a former member of the board of directors for the New Mexico Children’s Home and served several years on the Wayland Baptist University board of trustees. He was preceded in death by a brother David E. Robertson of Spokane, Wash. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Barbara; son Steve Robertson of Dallas; son Stan Robertson and wife Angela of Lubbock; son Matt Robertson and wife Becky of Ransom Canyon; daughter Alesha Ellis and husband Andy of Plainview; five grandchildren; sister Joan Smith, formerly of Las Vegas, N.M.; and brother Jack Robertson of Bothell, Wash.
