Obituary: Kaywin LaNoue

Kaywin LaNoue, Christian educator and volunteer with Texas Baptist Men disaster relief, died April 1. She was 86.

Kaywin Joan Baldwin LaNoue, Christian educator and volunteer with Texas Baptist Men disaster relief, died April 1. She was 86. She was born on Nov. 21, 1934, in East St. Louis, Ill. As a child, she demonstrated a talent for dance, and she was a member of the Chicago National Dance Masters. She attended Stephen F. Austin State University where she met and married John LaNoue, and she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Committed to Christian ministry, she and her husband attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, where she received a master’s degree in religious education and later a Ph.D. in education. She taught in public schools most of her career before becoming a Christian school administrator and a children’s minister. She was a volunteer with TBM disaster relief and accompanied her husband on missions worldwide. She spent hours every day in prayer, praying daily for some individuals for decades. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, John LaNoue of Frost; son John LaNoue Jr. and his wife Deirdre of Irving; daughter Lydia LaNoue Slinkard and her husband Todd of Atlanta, Ga.; and two grandchildren. Visitation with the family will be held April 6 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home in Corsicana. A memorial service is scheduled at 11 a.m. on April 7 at First Baptist Church in Corsicana. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to Amigos Internacionales for the construction of a church in Uganda.
