Texas Tidbits: Baylor fundraising breaks records

Baylor marks successful fund-raising. Since Drayton McLane Jr. and his family provided the lead gift for a $260 million on-campus football stadium, Baylor University recorded the most successful two-year period of fund-raising in its 169-year history. From Feb. 1, 2012, through Feb. 28, 2014, Baylor’s total gifts and pledges of financial support surpassed $345.3 million, provided by more than 40,000 alumni, parents, faculty, staff and friends. During that timeframe, donors provided Baylor more than $178 million in support for academic programs, faculty, student scholarships, facilities and other areas, while approximately $167 million has been committed in support of Baylor athletics. More than 18,000 individuals became first-time donors during that period.

ETBU and Wiley College sign agreement. Wiley College President Haywood L. Strickland and East Texas Baptist University President Dub Oliver signed an articulation agreement that allows Wiley students to enroll in the ETBU master of arts in religion program while completing the senior year of the bachelor of arts in religion degree at Wiley. It marks the first time there has been an articulation agreement between ETBU and Wiley, a historically African-American United Methodist liberal arts school.
