FORT WORTH—A Michigan pastor urged African-American Texas Baptists to recognize the necessity of sacrifice for the gospel’s sake.

Morgan, pastor of New St. Paul Baptist Church in Detroit, Mich., issued his call to sacrifice in his keynote sermon at the annual African-American Fellowship conference in Fort Worth.
“If you’re ready for God to do something new in your life, in your ministry, in your church, in your walk with God, something about you has to die,” Morgan said. “Something about you has to be sacrificed.”
The African-American Fellowship re-elected as officers President Oscar Epps, pastor of Community Missionary Baptist Church in DeSoto; Vice President Ponce Brown, pastor of Shiloh Baptist Church in El Paso; Secretary Gleen Samuels, pastor of New Millennium Baptist Church in Lubbock; and Treasurer Elmo Johnson, pastor of Rose of Sharon Baptist Church in Houston.
During his second term as president, Epps said, he envisions a year of growth for the fellowship.
“We are definitely looking forward to grow our ministries, spread wider, give more preachers throughout the state a lot more personal attention to help them enhance where God is going … as we strengthen as a fellowship as a whole,” he said.
The conference also included a variety of special-interest workshops on topics ranging from church planting, to music ministry, to special-needs ministry.
