TYLER—Residents and staff at Breckenridge Village of Tyler recently were joined by 1,000 of their closest friends to celebrate the third annual Christmas in the Village.

The faith-based residential community for mentally disabled adults was transformed into a Christmas wonderland for the event. Its campus chapel became a venue for live entertainment and a colorful market featuring items handcrafted by residents.

“Christmas in the Village is a great opportunity for our residents to showcase their talents through art and music, all the while providing community members with a better understanding of the special individuals we serve at Breckenridge Village,” said Linda Taylor, director of development at Breckenridge, a ministry of Baptist Child & Family Services. “Our residents look forward to this event all year and enjoy making new friends and celebrating the holidays.”

Throughout the evening, Breckenridge residents sold T-shirts, Christmas cards and framed drawings decorated with their artwork to community, church and family members who strolled through the chapel.

Other residents showcased their talents by singing Christmas carols to guitar accompaniment with sign language interpretation.

Christmas in the Village raised more than $24,000, which will go toward the scholarship fund established to help residents continue calling Breckenridge Village their home.
